Summary

In Genesis 1:1, the first book of the Bible, in the very first scripture in the Bible, in the very first sentence of that scripture we are told that GOD created. HE is the CREATOR. In Arabic, “Rabb” an Arabic word meaning “LORD” “MASTER” “NOURISHER” also means “CREATOR.” See, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabb. The Genesis scriptures describe GOD creating a number of physical things---the heavens, the earth, dry land, vegetation, stars, moon, birds, fish, oceans, cattle, reptiles.

We are also told that GOD created some non-physical things---light, darkness, seasons—which manifest themselves in the physical environment.

Genesis also tells us that GOD created mankind—a male and female, which was bone, flesh (Genesis 2:23) as well as spirit (Genesis 1:26), like (or in the image of) GOD himself.

Genesis also introduces its readers to inventors. In Genesis 4 we are introduced to Jubal, the first musician, the inventor of some musical instruments. We are also introduced to Jubal’s half-brother, Tubal-cain, who opened the first foundry, where instruments of bronze and iron were forged.

Psalm 51:10 is a song/prayer to GOD, after the prophet Nathan came to David to tell David of GOD’s judgment after David’s adultery with Bathsheba and murder of her husband, Uriah. In this psalm, David spiritual prostrates himself before GOD. In a plea for forgiveness, David admits he is a sinner (Verse 2) and that he has sinned against GOD (Verse 4, Verse 11). David pleads for mercy (Verse1) and asks GOD to transform him (Verse 2 and Verse 7). David pleads with GOD to:

Create in me a clean heart, O GOD, and renew a right spirit within me

David prays a sinner’s prayer for salvation (Verse 11). He asks God to save him from his sinful nature (Verse 5---“in sin did my mother conceive me”). David admits that he is a broken man. He repents and offers himself sincerely to GOD (Verse 17). David asks GOD for restoration. David believes and has faith GOD can and will.

CREATION vs. INVENTION

Creation and Invention
In “Difference Between Creation and Invention,” the writer states that there is a difference between creation and an invention:

Creation is an artifact that has been brought into existence by someone. An invention is the creation of something in the mind. Artworks are always referred to as creations such as a painting or a drawing. There are people who are creative and despite seeing what everyone else sees, they think what no one else has thought before. These are innovators who come up with a new idea in their minds, and when they translate this idea into reality, the product that takes shape is called creation.

See, https://www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-creation-and-vs-invention/, April 18, 2011.

People who make things easier, simpler or better by creating something tangible or a product are usually thought of as inventors.

African American Inventors

During Black History Month many African American inventors, who would not ordinarily be recognized because their names were never included in Anglo-American and European history books, are often appreciated for the first time: Some of those inventors may include:

  1. Frederick McKinley Jones - The inventor of the air-conditioner unit (7/12/1949)
  2. Sarah E. Goode - The first African American woman granted a patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for her invention of the folding cabinet bed in 1885.
  3. Sarah Boone - Who patented a design improvement to the ironing board (12/30/1887)
  4. Alexander Miles - The inventor of the elevator (10/11/1867)
  5. Garrett Morgan - The inventor of the Traffic Light/Gas Mask (11/20/23)
  6. T. A. Carrington - The inventor of the stove (7/25/1876)
  7. Dr. Patricia Bath - The first female African American medical doctor to receive a medical patent for a laser cataract treatment device, the Laserpharo Probe, in 1988

GOD CAN AND STILL DOES CREATE
GOD is still in the “transformation business.” GOD is still able to transform circumstances, situa-tions, and most importantly lives. We don’t have to design a plan for ourselves. We don’t have to tell or instruct GOD what to do. We don’t have to “figure it all out for GOD.” Like David, we just have to go to GOD, just as we are, flawed and all, and ask GOD for:

A clean heart and a right spirit

Then believe, have faith and trust GOD will. Whether it is a new exercise program, a sinful transgression, a problem, a financial situation, the election, viruses or just life, we can trust GOD.

Trust and have faith! And, BE BLESSED!
