The Allen Temple Housing & Economic Development Corporation (ATHEDCO) is a faith based nonprofit organization whose mission is to address housing, economic and business development issues facing the residents and neighborhoods of Alameda County.  ATHEDCO was established as a separate 501(c) (3) in 1989 by Allen Temple Baptist Church and The Allen Temple Development Corporation to serve a housing and economic development entity for the Allen Temple Church Family.  Over the course of its history, ATHEDCO has developed, operated, and maintained 90 units low-income housing projects for seniors and persons disabled due to HIV/AIDS.

ATHEDCO's current programs is the implementation of the organization's commitment to its service communities:

  1. Improve the housing stock for low and very low income residents
  2. Increase and encourage the development of economic opportunities within these communities
  3. Expand educational and economic opportunities for young people within these communities

ATHEDCO's current programs includes:

PG&E Weatherization Program: ATHEDCO employees weatherize over 600 homes of persons of low and moderate incomes families per year.

Modification Program: Under contract with the City of Oakland, works with the City to provide Home Modification Counseling

Merritt College Program: In conjunction with Merritt College and Oakland Unified School district ATHEDCO prepares students to attain their General Education Diploma and then to enter into energy education course at the college.

ATHEDCO has an Advisory Council of both local business and major regional and national businesses.  ATHEDCO has been designated as a Community Development Entity (CDE), CDEs are certified by the CDFI Fund at the U.S. Department of Treasury.  The primary purpose of CDEs is to utilize the New Markets Tax Credit Program (NMTCs).  NMTCs were created to induce equity investments in low-income communities.  ATHEDCO looks forward to using this tool to increase the economic stability of these communities.
